The Princess

To My Beloved Royalty...

No, not every trans person feels like a stranger in their skin. Others do. Mars does.

I feel like that every single day and it is getting harder to hide...

I always have. Earliest I can remember was starting around three.

These days, it's a mix. Because I've done significant transition, I get some relief around my family and at work. But for the safety of our marriage (legal issues with insurance and the like.) and our kids in school, and having lost a number of friends by foolishly telling them, I have to do the "guy" thing a lot. I'm also tall and broad shouldered. Think NFL linebacker.

It's not a good as it could be, but it's infinitely better than it was, which is where I keep my focus.

I really like the way you have children put into naive and innocent words the way gender dysphoria can feel. It has such a melancholic beauty and simplicity. I especially liked what Sarah told her mother in strip #105. "...but I can't help being a girl, I hurt when I gotta act like a boy. In my heart I hurt".

And Mars asking "if you ever just feel...wrong?" has that same quality. The simplicity is just amazing, there is so much to be said and you have a way of making your characters say so much with seemingly so little.

Thank you for sharing your gift, Christine. <3

Rachel, I'd just like to point out that you didn't lose any friends. You merely found out who was actually never your friend to begin with.

Being Useful; you're sweet for saying that, and thank you! But, no, I did lose friends. And a couple of relatives. Only the best and most understanding of friends can adjust to everything. They are very rare. The rest are truly friends, but with limits. I don't value my relationship with them any less; I just value my relationships with my dearest friends more. And no-one starts as a Best Friend; it takes time. Some of the friends I lost may have eventually been ready to accept me; but now I'll either never know or it will take much longer.

On a less serious note, does anyone think Mars looks like Numbah 5 here (from Codename Kids Next Door)? Hairstyle and hat, I guess.
